What Insturment is Used to Create that Drone?
In watching videos of Tibetan monks, they are often seen playing a musical instrument that creates a low pitched drone. I always wondered what that instrument was called, and I finally found out the answer. It is a Rag Dung. The monks use the Rag Dung to accompany religious chants. The tone is supposed to be a help in meditating and healing, as it is said to create a calming effect on the listener. Perhaps this is based on the same idea that mantras have healing powers when used in meditating and self-hypnosis. To me, we can all benefit by learning from the beliefs of other cultures.
